Raising   can be a fun and rewarding hobby. It is a hobby, which if done properly, will pay for itself in a very short time. Chickens are not difficult to raise, however, they do have some requirements to keep them happy and healthy. One of those requirements is a chicken coop; in this article, we will look at how to construct a chicken coop.

The location of your chicken coop is the first decision that you have to make. When you choose the site for your chicken coop, it should be flat yet high enough for proper water drainage. The area that you select will also need to be flat enough to connect a chicken yard.

When you construct a chicken coop, it is a good idea to do a little pre-shopping for materials so that you can get the most for your money. This list of materials will enable you to build an 8-foot wide by 8 foot long by 4-foot high chicken coop.
For this project, you will need:
25- 2x4x8 for the frame construction (2 of the 2×4’s will be used for the perch).

3- 2x2x8 for the perch.
2- ½” 4×8 sheets of plywood for the roof.
5- ¼” 4×8 sheets of plywood for the walls, one of the sheets will be used to construct you are laying boxes.
3lbs of brass screws for construction, brass screws do not rust.


When you build your chicken coop, simply frame it up as you would a small shed. The nice thing about this design is that you can build your chicken yard, directly off the coop its self. This is one way how to construct a chicken coop. another benefit is that it has no floor, so it will be easier to clean.
